Acceptance
January 15, 2010. This is the day I will always remember. This was the day I said good-bye to what the world considered beautiful for black women, and conformed to what black beauty was really about. Yes. I cut off the straight hair and went to being what most described as being "Nappy". yes mam...NAPPY AND PROUD. If you think you are ready to be liberated and join the movement of the first step to acceptance, come follow me and check out the links I have to help with the transition. If you can't at least accept what God has given you, then how the hell you going accept others. CAN I GET AN AMEN?
It has been such a long time since I've updated my blog. Since then much has been accomplished. Just to name a few, I won first place at the Florida Georgia Louis Strokes Alliance for Minorities conference in the oral competition for chemistry and Biophysics. I was so proud of myself. I also placed third at my school's Research and Performing Arts Day where I was granted a prize of $100. Might not seem much but I was elated. There was a final competition held at St. Thomas University but I failed to place. Even though this was the outcome, I learnt that you cannot win it all. The most you can do is put your message out, do your best and hope for a positive response. you cannot please them all. These words were well picked when they were advised to me by my Calculus 2 professor Dr. Deselgne, who I must add is from Ethiopia.
During this time, I made the decision to attain a combined degree: MD/Ph.D. Why the change? I have realized that although I do enjoy research, I still have a part of me that is anxious to pursue a career in medicine. Choosing just one would have left me with an emptiness which I knew I would regret in the future. I am also hoping to specialize in Oncology because cancer research has stuck me as being very interesting. I am hoping that through this, I will find my purpose in life and contribute my knowledge to this growing and important field of research.
Marriage is drawing near as well. I'm just waiting on the proposal and hoping to not jinx myself. Already took the first step of moving in, and is now waiting for the official "WILL YOU MARRY ME". I do hope that my life stays on track, and that my dreams do come true: a loving husband, successful career in science and research, and of course a business of my own where my wealth will draw from.
SN: I recommend "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyasaki for anyone who does not want to work for someone for the rest of their lives, just to end up broke and with nothing to give to their children.

the importance of family
I believe I am the last person to even be talking about this issue since I know that there is beef between myself and a family member. But hopefully after Monday when I have a small chat when them, then I will be able to break this beef, unless they just don't want it to not be broken. What am I talking about. Well there is an issue with myself and one of my uncles who actually helped me get here to this country called the USA for me to be able to study and excel in life. But yes, now we are not talking because of miss communication. Apparently I was to do a show, but I was not able to because I ended up getting sick with the flu. So I asked for another student to do it for me and apparently the whole issue was taken out of proportion because one of my colleagues was too scared to asked how much we were actually going to get paid. So I said ok let me ask for them. BAD IDEA. Because I was the one to ask and ended up getting sick, I apparently was the one that was thought to be selfish.
But now, i am just going to try and break this by trying to talk to him, since this was the only advice I recieved from another relative and I personally don't like to be in beef with others. It just isn't worth it. And all in all, it is family. You cannot be uoset with your family because they are the ones that you will need mental support from in the future.

SOmething to learn
Life is such a funny thing. Two things I learnt today and I am willing to share this with everyone. The first thing I learned was to balacnce my chosen career with my intended family. I already know that I am interested in research, but at the same time I really do want to be a medical doctor that does of course a lot of research. But my question is this; what do I see myself doing in the next 10 years. Well. I see myself finishing my medical degree and maybe in practising and off course tending to my husband and family. Hopefully I will have a child or two by then. But who knows. I do know that I am going to look alittle more into a carrer in Corectional Medicine and hopefully my researching skills may just come into play. But however, I must make sure the choices I make will benefit and not affect my family in a bad way. Thus I must ensure that there be a proper balance between the two.
Funny to say that today I have learned to lessons, and I was proud to have shared the first one with everyone. However, the second one was not as pleasant. Can you imagine someone trying to hook up with your boyfriend after being your roommate for a year? I can. Because it has happened to me. I am not angry now but I have learnt a valuable lesson from this. Ignore people that believe they are better than you just because they think that their organization make them who they are. Sadly when they graduate I do hope that the organization is still going to help them out cause getting a job or a grad school will not be possible. I know it is harsh but I only speak the truth. I do hope that with all they different partners they have they don't get anything deadly. Maybe I just don't care. Yea, I hope they do catch something deadly. But I am not God so I don't have any say in this. I was angry because of this interesting news; to hear that your ex-roommate pretended not to know you just so they can sleep with your boyfriend.
Anyways people, these are the interesting lessons that I have learned today. DOn't worry, my next postings will be most constructive and entertaining to, but they will definitely be about getting to your dreams and learning from the experiences and mistakes that you encounter.

This is the first time that I am actually going to post something on a blog. If I don't get bored then you never know, I might just go ahead and continue writing about my "life" and the challenges that I face getting to my dream career in the field of medicine and hopefully drug discovery. But what can I say about myself besides the obvious. Well I'm cute...attractive, and everything but undesirable. Yes, I am quite a creation. Thank you God.
Today I can actually say is apart of my second week here at Duquesne University doing my second internship. This time it under Dr. Khan, a prestigious Physical Chemistry chemist who is trying to find an alternative means of producing hydrogen through the use of a photocatalyst such as titanium oxide. However, this oxide was carbon doped. But my project is not to try and duplicate. It is however to try and make methanol using the oxide I have mentioned. It has never been done but hopefully I will get it and become famous...ha...hopefully.
Other than that I am really looking forward to going back home to Antigua to enjoy the festivites of Carnival. Yes I have been waiting long since I haven't seen this beautiful island in 2 years...Yes people, 2 years. Don't worry, I will have pictures to show off...lol.
ANYWAYS, I am off to bed and will update you on my boring happens.
